Homes For Sale In Fanwood, NJ

Fanwood like many Central Jersey communities was built along the railroad lines of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. The first homes in the borough were clustered around the train station, which at the time was located east of Martine Avenue.  The borough was incorporated in 1895 with 350 residents and is only 1.34 square miles, surrounded on three sides by Scotch Plains.

The old Fanwood train station, built-in 1874, stands as the oldest original train station in Union County and remains the center of many community activities. It houses the Fanwood Museum and is a meeting place for various groups. Fanwood was rated #1 small town in 2019 by NJ Monthly magazine. This charming town is filled with picturesque homes featuring detailed architecture and a quaint downtown.

Beautiful Day to buy or sell a home in Fanwood

No corporate stores in Fanwood but you will find an abundance of charming shops and restaurants. Some highlights include The Fanwood Larder a specialty-foods shop, The Railside Café for the best breakfast, and lunch in town. Plus don’t miss Houdini Pizza or stop in the Scotchwood Florist for some beautiful flower arrangements.

Fanwood does share a school system with Scotch Plains but they are separate towns.  Fanwood has its own police, fire, mayor etc. The towns are close but each has its own unique qualities.

Fanwood is a great place to call home!
