During the 18th century, much of present day Clark was part of the “West Fields” of Elizabethtown. An early settler, Dr. William Robinson, bought 700 acres in 1686 and built a house, which is now the oldest building in town. The town was named for Abraham Clark, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Prior to 1940 and until the advent of the Garden State Parkway with its formal opening in 1954, Clark was a rural town. Since that time Clark has grown into a vibrant, suburban, residential town with thriving commercial and business ventures.

Clark has a large shopping hub in the Central avenue area. Consisting of numerous stores including Target, Whole Foods, Shoprite, LA Fitness, Jersey Mikes, Dunkin Donuts, Michaels, and the like. It is a conveniently located shopping area that is thoughtfully laid out and accessible.

This is not the heart of Clark. Clark is also home to a unique Skate Park and Oak Ridge Park. Oak Ridge is over 90 acres and includes an archery range and a brand new athletic field that includes a turf field and track.

Clark is a great place to call home! The numerous annual events in town enrich life for all the residents. Highlights include events at the Deutsche Club, Menorah and tree lighting ceremonies and 4^th of July fireworks.
