Westfield, originally known as the “West Fields”, was once a popular trail for the Lenni-Lenape Indians whose heritage remains in many local streets and parks that are named for them.   In the late 19th century the town was settled by immigrants from Europe, and continues today to sustain the residential tradition begun in the late 19th century with several areas officially designated as historic homes sections.

Historic building InWestfield

Today, We consider Westfield the “midburbs”. It has the great qualities of suburban life; quiet streets, beautiful parks, and excellent amenities like a town pool and public library.  At the same time, Westfield maintains some of the urban bustle with its vibrant downtown that has many great restaurants and shopping. It is a safe place for tweens and teens to meet for a coffee or ice cream. Adults can have a taste of Italy in Farinolio or shop for the home in The Farmhouse Store. Award-winning schools and local arts programs round out this desirable community.

North Side VS South Side

You may have heard about the friendly North Side Vs South Side rivalry in Westfield. The truth of the matter is both sides of town are great but do  have slightly different qualities.

The Southside has easier access to the Garden State Parkway and the newer Clark Commons which has stores such as Whole Foods, Michaels, and Petco. The Southside has the town pool, Tamaques Park, Lincoln School (Pre-K and Kindergarten building), Westfield High School, and Kehler Field where junior high and high school games are held.

Beautiful day to buy or sell a house in Westfield

The North side has easier access to Route 22  and  Westfield’s downtown. The North side also has the library, municipal buildings, and Mindowaskin Park. Mindowaskin has a pond with a spectacular fountain, a fabulous new accessible playground, and is home to numerous events including the summer concert series in the park

When you shop for real estate in Westfield you will see some neighborhood’s. On the South Side, you can expect to see Stonehenge, Stoneleigh Park, and Manor Park. On the North Side, you will see Brightwood, Wychwood, Indian Forest, The Gardens and Kimball Historic District.

Westfield is a great place to call home! The numerous annual events in town enrich life for all our residents. Highlights include The Pizza Run, Addamsfest, The Farmers Market, Turkey Trot, Summer Tuesday Jazz nights, Westfield Memorial Library lecture series and events, and Daddy-Daughter Dances plus more.
